Matt and Caylan!

I've slipped a little lately when it comes to adding to the blog. We have been so busy with things here that days fly by and time gets away! So, I sat down tonight and decided to write a little update. We have good news, but it is a little bittersweet. Last week, we got the news that Caylan, our oldest daughter, got engaged!
Dawn and I are truly excited for her and Matt, and very proud of her. It truly was great news for us, but it didn't exactly come as a surprise, since I had already talked to Matt and knew it was coming. He had requested that I call him so that he could talk to me about it before he asked her. I must say I was pretty impressed by that! He's a great guy, and I'll be proud to have him as a son-in-law.
But this was a little sad for us as well, because we are so far away from them. I would love to have been there when she came to tell us the news, and been able to see the excitement on her face!  This is something that we really did not anticipate when we left, but now it is reality. Thankfully, Matt had a friend taking pictures, so we got to see the happiness in their eyes that way. It's all good! I am finding in this particular experience that we continue to learn to be flexible and deal with things in whatever ways we can, and to trust that God will provide. It doesn't always mean things are easy!
We also now know that we will be making a trip back to the U.S. sometime in the spring, so this creates some excitement and apprehension as well. It will be so nice to get to see family and friends, but it also means saying goodbyes again, and that will be hard.
I am so proud of both Matt and Caylan, and how they have put God at the head of their relationship. I couldn't ask for anything more!
And if you know our situation, we believe God has been active and working on this long before we ever left the states. It was so hard to leave her home, but we knew God had a plan, even if we didn't know what it was at the time! Even in the midst of struggles, God is still good!!
